Following this spectacular story (told in a series of murals painted by a young Philadelphia artist), the message is as relevant today as it was when it first appeared on the walls of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building over a century ago.

 

Production Schedule

After the past eighteen months of intense historical research, production itself is now expected to take seven months and includes filming interviews and location sequences in HD format; securing Rights and Reproduction contracts with participating institutions; scanning and digitizing all collected archival materials; recording voice-overs and original score. During the ten-month post-production phase, professional crews will edit the documentary and create a DVD submenu.

The documentary will be distributed over the Internet from American INSIGHT's website.

Educational Aspects

While Free Speech: A Sacred Challenge is designed to appeal to a wide range of ages, special care will be taken to engage high school students in the story's impact, particularly through INSIGHT's curriculum component.

One of the objectives for Free Speech: A Sacred Challenge is to provide educators with a useful, teachable classroom tool. Philadelphia's former Superintendent of Schools Paul Vallas endorses the project's value by saying, "Both students and citizens will be able to use Violet Oakley's murals to explore and analyze historical beliefs at the center of the founding of the Commonwealth and ultimately, our nation."
